Google Bookmarks gets Delicious import, via staffer's undead script

When Yahoo announced it was ready to wash its hands of Delicious, panicked users began looking for alternative places to send their cloud bookmarks. Delicious, however, responded quickly and said there was nothing to worry about -- the service was still being maintained and your bookmarks didn't need to be rescued from a burning building.

Never ones to miss an opportunity, Google has finally decided to trumpet the availability of a Delicious to Google Bookmarks importer. You can now visit the page, pop in your credentials, and move everything quickly and painlessly.

Interestingly, Google probably could have been doing this since 2006 -- when one of its engineers posted an identical script on a personal site. Mihai Parparita resurrected his importer's code back in December, and it's his reanimated script that Google is now using -- just check out the side-by-side image after the break and see.

Mashable's Jolie O'Dell figures the move might be a way to grab more Google Bookmark users. We can't help thinking the whole process would make a whole lot more sense if there was a way to access Google Bookmarks natively in Chrome -- you know, the way we can access our synced ones.
