American adolescents had the Osmonds and the Jackson 5 to swoon over in the early 70s, but in Britain the homegrown teen idol cupboard was bare. Then a quintet from Edinburgh hit the charts with a song called Remember (Sha-La-La) and Rollermania was born. For two years, they were the biggest thing in Britain (and Europe, Japan and the US). Such was their hold on a generation that women of a certain age still go misty-eyed at the mention of their tartan trousers.
