(Island)
There was always a whiff of indie landfill about the Fratellis, but a classy 2009 collaboration with singer Lou Hickey under the name Codeine Velvet Club revealed hidden depths to their frontman's songwriting. Sadly, it's the bloke-rock of his best-known band that predominates here ? delivered with larynx-ripping conviction but scuppered by drearily "proper" songwriting. "She's My Shaker" apes the strut of "Chelsea Dagger" without the infectious terrace-chant hook that semi-redeemed it, while "Rhythm Doesn't Make You a Dancer" is as plodding as its title suggests.
